Kharr was once a mortal champion who died protecting an ancient temple from desecration. The death god was so impressed by his valor that instead of claiming his soul, he merged it with that of his divine jackal, creating a perfect guardian for the threshold between worlds. Now Kharr walks both realms, invisible to most living beings except at twilight or in places where life and death intersect. His spikes aren't decorative but crystallized shadows that absorb light around wrongdoers, making them visible to him across any distance. Desert travelers who leave small offerings at crossroad shrines sometimes find mysterious paw prints leading away from dangers they never noticed. Children who face near-death experiences often speak of a kind jackal-man who guided them back to the living world, his eyes the last stars visible before dawn.
